Big Brother finale: Julie Chen says 'Paul was robbed'

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Well, they say to expect the unexpected on this show, but how shocked are you that the jury voted for Josh over Paul, especially considering Josh got votes from people like Cody and Mark that he tormented inside the house?
JULIE CHEN: I didn’t know what to expect with the jury votes. Honestly, I thought this will be either a landslide for Paul, or Josh wins by a vote of two. The only locks I thought Paul had were Raven and Matt. But I thought Alex would bury the hatchet being the gamer she is, and that Cody would also respect and recognize that Paul truly did outplay everyone. No dice. Not even from Mark, who seemed so level-headed when it comes to being about who played who and who was running the show.
Do you think the jury made the right decision?
I think the jury made the wrong choice. Paul was robbed. But Josh was no slouch. He won competitions, had a conscience and didn’t mislead people in the same slick way that Paul did.
Paul looked shell-shocked by the vote. Being there, what was your take on how stunned and disappointed he was?
More than stunned, I think Paul was embarrassed and upset. But more embarrassed than anything. You could feel his frustration with himself for miscalculating how the jury would ultimately vote. He should have shown more remorse in his final plea to the jury. And he shouldn’t have been making faces during Josh’s speech to the jury.
Speaking of surprises, what do you think about Cody winning the fan favorite vote, even though he was out of the house pretty early… twice!
Cody not only won America’s Favorite Houseguest, but he won by A LOT! Wow. I guess people responded to him suddenly being the underdog and being persona non grata in the house. He was also not a phony. He was straightforward with people — if he didn’t like you, he told you to your face… for better or worse. People responded to his honesty if you will.
Finally, we have Celebrity Big Brother coming up this winter. Give me one dream celebrity contestant you would like to get in the BB house.
One dream celebrity in the house? Andrew Dice Clay.

Maria Strikes, and Puerto Rico Goes Dark

Hurricane Maria, the most powerful storm to make a direct hit on Puerto Rico in almost a century, ravaged the island on Wednesday, knocking out all electricity, deluging towns with flash floods and mudslides and compounding the already considerable pain of residents here.
Less than two weeks ago, Hurricane Irma dealt the island a glancing blow, killing at least three people and leaving nearly 70 percent of households without power. This storm, which made landfall at 6 a.m. as a Category 4 hurricane, took out the island’s entire power grid, and only added to the woes of a commonwealth that has been groaning under the weight of an extended debt and bankruptcy crisis.
Beyond the immediate damage from winds up to 155 miles per hour, continuous rain flooded coastal communities as well as neighborhoods in the central, mountainous areas of the island, which is full of rivers and streams. One person was reported dead, though the power failure has largely cut off communication with some of the worst-hit areas.
Residents woke Wednesday to the clamor of strengthening wind gusts, with the memory of Hurricane Irma still fresh. By afternoon, the whole island had lost electricity.

“There has been nothing like this,” said Ramón Lopez, a military veteran who was holding back tears outside his neighborhood in Guaynabo, on the northern coast near San Juan, the capital. “It was the fury. It didn’t stop.”

NEW BEGINNINGSRosh Hashanah has begun! When does Jewish New Year 2017 start and end and how do Jews celebrate the holiday?

The two-day celebration is packed with special foods and traditions and is one of the most important dates in the Jewish calendar

Durnig Rosh Hashanah, Jews will consume symbolic foods such as apples or cakes dipped in honey, which are supposed to represent having a 'sweet new year'

What is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah translates as “the head of the year” in Hebrew and is when Jews observe the end of one year and the start the next.
It is thought by Jews to be the day that God created Adam and Eve, and serves as a time to celebrate the creation of the universe.
Although the festival is a chance to enjoy time spent with friends and family, it is also a time for reflection, and begins 10 days of repentance for sins committed in the previous year.
At the end of the 10 days is Yom Kippur, which is the Day of Atonement.
It is considered to be the holiest day in the Jewish calendar and is usually spent in prayer and fasting.

When does Rosh Hashanah start?

Get your honey and hollowed-out ram horn at the ready as the Jewish celebration takes place at sundown on Wednesday September 20.

Nest rolls out doorbell with Google's facial-recognition software

SAN FRANCISCO — Home-device maker Nest Labs is adding Google's facial-recognition technology to a camera-equipped doorbell and rolling out a security system in an attempt to end its history of losses.
The products announced Wednesday expand on the internet-connected thermostats, smoke detectors and stand-alone security cameras that Nest has been selling since its inception six years ago.
Although Nest has been among the early leaders in the effort to make home appliances as intelligent as people's smartphones, it hasn't been able to make money, to the frustration of its corporate parent, Alphabet. In an attempt to shake things up, Alphabet brought in cable industry veteran Marwan Fawaz to replace Nest founder Tony Fadell as CEO after Fadell stepped down 15 months ago.
Nest had been supplementing its existing product line with slightly different choices, until Wednesday's move into entirely new categories.
The Hello doorbell comes with a built-in video camera and speakers that will make it seem like it can recognize and talk to people.
The doorbell will draw on Google's facial recognition technology, so it can warn a home's occupants when a stranger approaches. Google bought Nest for $3.2 billion in 2014 and then spun it off after it hatched Alphabet, its parent company.
Nest is now lumped into a group of risky companies venturing into new areas of technology that have collectively lost $10.6 billion in three-and-half years.
Nest isn't announcing a price for its new doorbell until it hits the market sometime during the first three months of next year.
Apple is implanting a different form of facial recognition into its $1,000 iPhone X to unlock the device, telegraphing a future where cameras increasingly are going to be able to identify people within its lens' range.
The new phone will be released in November.
Nest's usage of facial recognition hasn't yet sparked privacy concerns because it doesn't tap into Google's vast database of photos to automatically recognize people. Instead, a user of the Nest camera or doorbell must manually tag and name people before the device recognizes someone.
The Nest home security system is being billed as a simpler and more convenient way to protect a home than the alarms and other kinds of sensors that have long been sold by other vendors. Nest's "Secure" system will sell for $499 for its basic toolkit of devices.

Wall Street is gushing over AMD on its A.I. chip relationship with Tesla

  • CNBC reported on Wednesday that Tesla is working with AMD to develop its own artificial intelligence chip for self-driving cars.
  • Analysts are increasingly more bullish on AMD's technology and potential in the critical AI market following the news.
  • "The Tesla/AMD move has disruptive implications to the multi-billion self-driving market," Rosenblatt Securities' Hans Mosesmann writes in a note entitled "Tesla AI Move With AMD - Game Changer."
Analysts are increasingly more bullish on AMD's technology and potential in the critical artificial intelligence market after the news that Tesla is using the company's intellectual property.
CNBC reported on Wednesday that Tesla is working with AMD to develop its own AI chip for self-driving cars. The electric car maker has more than 50 employees involved in the project, according to a source.
"The Tesla/AMD move has disruptive implications to the multi-billion self-driving market," Rosenblatt Securities' Hans Mosesmann wrote in a note entitled "Tesla AI Move With AMD - Game Changer" on Wednesday.
"AMD has had zero play in the self-driving market. Also, AMD is the only player in the world that can offer both x86 CPU and strong GPU IP and expertise … The net/net here for AMD is that Tesla has confirmed AMD's CPU and GPU roadmaps in a field that nobody was considering as viable; it says that AMD's CPU/GPUs in PC and server markets are the real deal," he added.
AMD's stock is up 118 percent in the past 12 months through Wednesday compared with the S&P 500's 16 percent gain. That performance ranks No. 2 in the entire S&P 500, according to FactSet.
Mosesmann reiterated his buy rating on AMD shares and his $22 price target, representing 60 percent upside from Wednesday's close.

With desire to fight gone, Andre Ward retires from boxing

Pound-for-pound king and unified light heavyweight world titleholder Andre Ward said in a statement on his website that he is "leaving" boxing.
"I want to be clear -- I am leaving because my body can no longer put up with the rigors of the sport and therefore my desire to fight is no longer there," the statement said. "If I cannot give my family, my team, and the fans everything that I have, then I should no longer be fighting."
On Thursday, 33-year-old Ward told First Take more about the thought process behind his decision to retire.
"People see what I do fight night," he said. "They see under the lights, but they don't see the toil, they don't see the grind, they don't see just the pain, the physical pain that you go through, not just in the fights, but to prepare and to get ready for those battles."
He added: "I felt the physicality of the sport -- not just in-the-ring stuff, but the training and the preparation -- start to take its toll on me for the last two or three years, and I bit down and continued to push through. And at this point, it's time, and I know it's time."

Traina Thoughts: Lawrence O'Donnell's REALLY Wants People To Stop Hammering

1. This is one of those days where sports has to take a back seat to something much more entertaining. MSNBC host, Lawrence O'Donnell, must have an enemy inside the cable news network because somebody leaked this eight-minute video of him behaving very badly during a recent telecast. It seems that during commercial breaks, O'Donnell had several complaints for his staff. These things ranged from anarchy in the control room to someone hammering on the floor above him. The result was several profanity-laced tirades, tense body language and overall hostility. The video is eight-minutes long, but if you are pressed for time, you can fast forward to the four-minute mark when business really picks up. Sit back and enjoy.

Now watch TSN anchor Jay Onrait do a great imitation of O'Donnell.
2. Me and my Extra Mustard colleagues wanted to pay tribute to our favorite things in sports, so
3. Tom Brady has a new book out which features some bizarre recipes that he uses for his bizarre diet. SI's Ben Eagle and former Lions tight end, Joseph Fauria decided to make and taste Brady's avocado ice cream. I tasted it and it looked and tasted much worse than these guys let on.
4. For some reason, Richard Sherman is all upset because the NFL puts out injury reports ever week. "Maybe somebody should look into that, because I thought we weren't a gambling league and we were against all those things. But our injury report is specifically to make sure the gamblers get their odds right,” said Sherman. Thankfully, the great Brent Musburger set Sherman straight.

High school teacher is arrested after admitting to sex with four students

A high school art teacher accused of having sex with four students was arrested Wednesday.
Jessie Lorene Goline, 25, faces one count of first-degree sexual assault because only one of the students, who she thought was 18, turned out to be “way younger than what he told her,” according to an affidavit cited by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Goline admitted to having sex with four students from both the Marked Tree School District and the East Poinsett County School District between January and April of 2016, the affidavit states.
The four students said Goline would send them text messages that grew increasingly sexual over time, the Democrat-Gazette reported.

One of the alleged victims said Goline commented on his looks in class and sent him a photo of herself wearing a thong.
Goline also brought two of the students back to her apartment and had sex with them in separate incidents on the same day, authorities said.

WHAT'S MY NAME? Rihanna fans have just found out why her make-up line is called Fenty Beauty and they can’t cope

RIHANNA’S brand new make-up line has sent fans into a frenzy as they scramble to get their hands on the products.
But many were left scratching their heads trying to work out why the pop megastar decided to call the range Fenty Beauty.
Rihanna has launched her own make-up line called Fenty Beauty, which is named after her surname, Fenty
